VPL application process for record companies

Joining VPL is free.

To join, you must be the owner (or exclusive licensee) of the UK rights to publicly perform and broadcast at least one music video.

STEP 1 - E-mail the PPL Repertoire Database team for login details

Access to the PPL Repertoire Database is free to all prospective VPL members. In order to obtain login details for the website, you should e-mail repertoire@ppluk.com, to confirm the following details:

- your record company name
- a full contact name for the record company
- the record company’s postal address and telephone number

You will receive a reply to this e-mail within 24 hours.

STEP 2 - Register videos via the application

Once a record company has received login details, the registration software must be downloaded which will enable videos to be registered with VPL.
Once the video has been sent to the PPL Repertoire Database, it will take approximately 24 hours to load onto the system.

If a record company has its own database there are alternative methods of registering its music videos, e.g. XML (or other electronic data transfer system).  Please contact PPL for more information at repertoire@ppluk.com, or on 020 7534 1331.

STEP 3 -  complete and return member pack

When a record company has successfully registered its sound recordings, VPL will email them the New Member Application Pack.

It is here that the applicant supplies contact and payment details and transfers its public performance and broadcast rights in videos to VPL (or appoints VPL as agent in this regard). This enables VPL to collect any revenue that may be generated from these sound recordings.

You will receive your New Member Application Pack within approximately 10 days of registering your videos with the PPL Repertoire Database.

STEP 4 - Receive membership ID by email

Once you have completed and returned all compulsory parts of the New Member Application Pack, your application will be notified to the VPL Board for approval.  On approval, VPL will email a unique Membership ID to the new member.

Once you're a member

As a confirmed member of VPL, a record company is required to register all videos, that it controls the rights to, on the PPL Repertoire Database. This will help VPL ensure that members’ revenues are maximised.
