Once you have been given the details of your first registrant code, you will be supplied with details of how you can simply allocate ISRCs to your sound recordings and music videos.

For reference, an ISRC is made up of 12 digits, split into 4 parts.  Please refer to the example ISRC below:

Details of how to assign ISRCs

1. The country code is represented by two letters e.g. (GB) which identifies the country of residence of the registrant at the time of the first registrant code allocation.

2. The first registrant code e.g. (AAA) is three letters allocated in sequence from PPL’s database that are specific to each record label/master owner. This code does not denote ownership of the recording or video and as such does not change if the recording  or video is acquired by or licensed to another repertoire owner.

3. The year of reference e.g. (05) is the year in which a sound recording or music video is allocated with an ISRC.

4. The designation code is five numerical digits of the individuals’ choice. The easiest way to construct this section of the code for the first recording or video allocated with an ISRC is always suggested as 00001. It is advised that the sequence of allocation is 00001, 00002, 00003, etc. This sequence can be reset to 00001 when a new year of reference is applicable.
